Frank Schuler: Tattoo Artist

It was years ago at the San Francisco Academy of Arts- The Disney Co. was looking for the school’s most talented students to recruit to their team, an exciting opportunity for any student about to graduate. Frank Schuler was a different case all together. “I had a job offer from Disney but before I was offered the position, they asked me to remove the Guinness Label tattooed on my inner arm. As polite as I could be, I told them to go f@#k themselves and got an apprenticeship at Sacred Tattoos in Oakland California.”

IA: Besides Sacred Tattoo and your current shop, where have you worked?

FS: The Illustrative Man Tattoo and Lucky Boys Tattoo.

IA: And what is the current shop you work at?

FS: Never Say Die Tattoo in Harrisburg, PA.

IA: How long have you worked there?

FS: A year and a half.

IA: How many total years have you been tattooing?

FS: Eight years.

IA: How would you describe your tattoo style?

FS: Fast and loose. Meaning I tattoo the way I draw- usually based on traditional but a little more “cartoony”.

IA: What would you say is your favorite thing about working in this industry?

FS: Its great doing what I love, and working with some great guys.

IA: And what do you like to do in your free time?

FS: I love hanging out with my 1 1/2 year old daughter, Mary Scarlet, working on hot rods, and pin striping what ever I can get my hands on.

Awesome – Thank you so much Frank for taking time out of your day to talk to us!
