Stare down the lens with Professional Photographer Hugo V. & gain insight on how to get an amazing shot, advice for aspiring modesl/photographers, how he's grown his social media following, and what makes him an InkAddict!
We are huge fans of Hugo V’s photography so we wanted to get to know the man behind the camera. He’s not only a part of the InkAddict Nation but you can spot some of his work on two past tee designs. Hugo has done many shoots with our product and loves wearing our apparel. “I don’t just promote it for attention, I actually wear it on a daily basis.” Hugo has been behind the lense for as long as he can remember. He even remembers getting in trouble in second grade for taking his parents nice camera to SeaWorld. That didn’t phase him and he continued to pursue his passion, starting to shoot professionally in 2012.
Hugo feels that to create that amazing shot it’s all about personality. His advice for photographers is, be creative and communicate while you shoot, don’t be afraid to try new things. Most importantly, have fun, be fun, create an ambiance that makes your model enjoy their time. Remember to be respectful though, “Don’t be that creep photographer that’s in it for the wrong reasons.”
For new models Hugo feels that you need to pick and choose who you work with because they reflect upon you. Take the plunge and pay good photographers and makeup artists to start to build your portfolio. Have fun on set! He always prefers to work with models that are outgoing and willing to kick ass. “Tattoos and hot bodies aren’t what make a shot, it’s the personality.”
When it comes to social media Hugo has been great at building his following by not only posting a lot of his work but engaging his audience so they feel like they are a part of the process. “It makes you more likable if you are a real person rather than just an entity.” When it comes to models and their social following, that doesn’t affect who Hugo wants to work with. He likes faces that know how to express and emote, bodies that know how to move and pose, and personalities that make a shoot enjoyable and fun.
