1. What brought you into the world of tattooing?

A. I've always liked tattoos, and it has always been a part of my lifestyle. When I started getting heavily tattooed, I would share my drawings with my artist, he's the one that kind of encouraged me to hang out at the shop and see if tattooing would be something of interest.

2. How did you develop your neo-trad style?

A. I originally worked with a lot of new school artists, but I always preferred traditional work. I started pulling inspiration from both styles and morphing them together. At first I didn't really know what to call it, it just became a way of drawing and painting.

3. When you first started off, what was the most challenging part of tattooing?

A. I've always been very out spoken, but shy when it came to one-on-one interactions. Working with people on such a close level was an obstacle in the beginning.

4. Do you have any horror stories?

A. I'm not the best speller....

5. You have an amazing portfolio, do clients come to you with specific ideas? Or do they have something simple and let you put your spin on it?

A. Most of the time I'm given creative freedom, and just handed a simple idea to work with in my own style. Then there are days I get the more...particular clients that have extremely specific details in mind.

6. What hobbies do you have outside of the shop?

A. I just recently moved back to Florida, so I'm back to fishing and surfing regularly. I spend a lot of time with my family, and am expecting a little one in the next month. I definitely keep busy outside of the shop!

7. What is the most difficult part of being a tattoo artist? How do you overcome those challenges?

A. There is a pressure to constantly create, which has its ups and downs. Social media has definitely helped to encourage and inspire, but it can also be a source of criticism and like most artists we end up being hardest on ourselves. Evolution is the only way to overcome those challenges, and like I said before constantly creating. You have to push yourself to be the best artist that you can, while still encouraging and supporting others within the community.

8. What conventions do you have lined up for next year?

A. This upcoming year has a lot in store. I am currently expanding the Aces High Tattoo in Lake Worth FL (@aceshighldub), and expecting a little Travis Brown in the next month. I'm still working on specifics, however for conventions I am leaning towards: Detroit, Asheville, Baltimore, South Florida, and the Boston conventions. I'm also planning out a couple guest spots!

9. If you could throw your style on any movie character or scene, what would it be?

A. Anything from Jurassic Park!

10. Where can our followers see more of your work?

A. By coming to see me in person at Aces High Tattoo. Or check out my Instagram @travisbrown918.

In Memory Of...

May 18, 2018

One of the biggest reasons people get tattooed is to remember those they've lost. There's no better way to memorialize a loved one or someone who has made a significant impact on your life than to get a tattoo in their honor. This Memorial Day, we turned to the InkAddict Nation to learn about their ink that pays tribute to those no longer with us.
