It's been a wild ride the past 10 years and it looks like the future is gonna get even wilder--and it the best possible way. InkAddict started in a basement in Metro Detroit in 2007, and is now looking for it's fourth home because of growth. Long gone are the days of printing one shirt at a time on a single press. Nowadays some designs are printed by the thousands; we even started printing for other companies and brands. Recently we put a for-sale sign on our building and I wanted to take a minute to break down the evolution of the brand and what the future holds for us.
In 2011, we started to hit the tattoo conventions across the country, and soon, after the brand started to make headway. Jim and I quit our jobs to focus full-time on building the brand. One of the first things we had to do was find InkAddict a home, as we far out stayed our welcome in the basement. Later that year we leased a 600 square foot space from a friend and hired our first two employees. We quickly out-grew that location and started leasing other available spaces in that building to keep up with inventory. At that time we had nine employees who literally sat asses to elbows while performing their work. Jim and I knew we had to find another, larger space that could accommodate our growing crew.
We knew if we were gonna make a move it had to be to a space that would allow us to bring in screen printing equipment. It was crucial for us to be able to be our own quality supervisors for the brand. In 2014 we moved into a 8,600 square foot area, and within the first year had 25 employees. Purchasing a new building, building out the space, hiring all of those employees, and essentially running a new screen print business began to run its toll on us, and sales started to take a hit. We were focusing so much of our attention working in the business we forgot that we needed to work on the business. So here we are now and have all of that stuff figured out, or at least we would like to think. The word started to get out that we were printing goods for a few selective brands, and people wanted us to do the same for them. So the past year we decided to open up our printing company to the public, and started Woodward Movement Creative.
It's pretty simple. We need more warehouse space for equipment to keep up with demand for InkAddict as well as our new printing business. Before we make the move, we to need to sell or lease out our current location. So if you drive by our current location and see the sign on the building, we just want let you know that we are on to even bigger and better things. We're keeping our fingers crossed to be able to make a move in early 2018. Thanks for all of the continued support over the last decade and we look forward to the next decades to come.
